Anything is Possible

I think of myself a year ago and I think of myself today.  Last year at this time I was living in Chicago in my own apartment, working 7 days a week and I had never been so pour in my life.  I was going to school at Aveda 5 days a week, basically working for free while the 2 days I had off from school I was working at a Village Green property in the Gold Coast.  Every day after school I would collect the $10 I had made from standing on my feet for 8 hours, go to the walgreens on the corner and either buy pop tarts, milk, or pasta.  I would go home to my fridge where there was probably 2 things in there and watch tv or read the rest of the night because I couldn't afford to go out with my friends.  The funny thing is, is that I wouldn't have changed it, I love being in Chicago.  I wasn't this poor the while 3 and a half years I lived there ;) I have made long lasting friendships and met some really amazing people along the way who I miss dearly.

Anyway, I was working towards a goal, and I saw the light at the end of the tunnel (even if at the end of that tunnel was a totally different direction I was headed).  I was so lost for so many years on what path I wanted to take in life.  I had always wanted to do photography when I was younger.  I remember going to Yeatts Cider Mill and taking pictures of the water rushing over the rocks in the creek.  I remember taking photography classes in college and I wouldn't mind being in the dark room all day(it was much different back then).  It was always such a rush putting that white piece of paper in the chemicals and waiting for my photo to magically appear.   It was always so relaxing and my getaway from the real world.  This is when I realized this is what I wanted to do, but I thought, and was told by people close to me, this was an unrealistic dream.  I chose many different paths in life-- retail, sales, real estate, hair.  Even though I love doing hair and I love doing real estate unfortunately this wasn't my passion.  I originally moved home to save money and start the whole hair thing, but I haven't had a lot of success along the way.  I told my mom today "maybe things happened for a reason this way, maybe I was really meant to move home and start this". Even though it has been a hard and confusing path I am so thankful to have realized what I want to do "when I grow up".  My dad still says he doesn't know what he wants to do when he grows up;)  I consider myself really lucky to have found it even if it took me a couple years and throwing away money along the way;).  This is the beginning for me, it is exciting and I am just finding my way, even if it is a little scary.  I am taking a leap of faith and even though it IS terrifying, I know it is right and that's why I will not give up.  I think of myself then (so lost and no knowing if this was the right thing) and now, and it is amazing what transformed.  Anything can happen, and I am going to follow my dreams!

I took some of these photos right before my cutie patuti Lindsey's birthday party.  It is amazing what can tranform from a mess of melting chocolate ;)

Happy Monday!

Inspiration

I love being creative and seeing things in a different way.  I love decorating and taking that perfect picture to capture a moment that you can feel forever.  Being a photographer truly makes me happy, I have always wanted to do it but didn't think it was possible.

I didn't really know if people ever read my blogs but 2 really cool things happened the last couple days.  One of my old managers that I used to work with in Chicago at one of the sweetest highrises downtown (it even had a movie room!) had texted me.  This property was my baby, I had worked there the longest and pretty much rented to most people that lived there.  I have made some lasting friendships just from that property.  ANYWAY, he texted me the other day and said "kathy, you inspired me to rip out my carpet and remodel my apartment!" How cool is that?  Hearing those words were a surreal thing, especially from my old manager!  Now he said he loves the space he is in and he likes being there much better now.  That made me feel really good because it made me realize people do read my blog and I am glad I could put an idea in someones head to make them love where they live and do something new.

I also got a call from one of my residents where I work now, Village Green of Troy East.  He just called up and I answered and he said he actually called up to talk to me.  I was a little thrown off guard at first but he said he had found me on facebook through one of the girls that used to work there.  He said he looked at my photos and told me great job, and he will definitely call me when he gets married!  He just called the office to tell me that, you cannot even imagine how happy that made me!

I feel like I have tried so many things and gone down so many paths and now I finally found my place. I try to see the beauty in everything and capture it with my camera.  I truly appreciate everything people have said.  I know I still have a lot of learning to do but it's people comments that make me believe it is possible and know that this is what I want to do in life. Thank you everyone for your sweet words and I am so happy I have so many people that support me!

Here is a picture of some weeds that I think are actually kinda beautiful ;)

PS. I want to say congrats to Jessica and Justin for welcoming their new little one into the world.  I can't wait to meet Chandler! :)

Family Time :)

Of course it was supposed to rain the day we planned to take this beautiful families photos!  I kept hoping it wouldn't and guess what....even though it was cloudy allll day there was not a drop!  As soon as I got to the location I was pleasantly surprised!  It was such a amazing place that was perfect for a shoot...especially with little ones running around and playing!  It was probably one of the most humid days of the year and let me tell you...these little kiddies kept me running around!  I had a really fun day meeting Katies family and capturing each of the kids personalities.  Thanks so much for having me and I hope you enjoy your first round of photos! ;)

Makeover!!!!

So I am hoping everyone who reads these blog posts... friends I haven't talked to in a while, clients, family, or future clients can get to know me:)  This blog post is alll about interior design, another one of my passions!  I have moved..lets see...9 times in the past 7 years!!!!  I moved each year in college, 4 times in Chicago and then moving back home last September...BOO.  Anyway, every new place I have gone I am always so excited to decorate and make it my own.  When I first moved back home after being away for 7 years it was a huge adjustment.  My room hadn't been touched since my senior year of high school and I couldn't stand it anymore!  I have become OCD and HATE clutter!  I wanted my room to be a place that is basically my office, living room, and bedroom all in one :)  After being here almost a year, it is almost complete!  The last few touches are some curtains and a picture I need to blow up and put in a frame :)  I thought I would share some before and after pics because it is crazy!  Now I love my room so much and it is somewhere where I can relax, work on my photos and really get away from everything. Enjoy!

Ps. In case you haven't seen my new website, click here :), and let me know what you think! :)
